Nellene is currently on leave of absence.
Nellene holds a BA in English and Biblical Languages from Union University (TN), an MA in English from the University of Iowa, and a PhD in English from the University of Iowa. Nellene attended Union University through the prestigious Provost Scholarship Award.
As an undergraduate, she studied in Oxford as part of an honors program, taught Greek labs to first year students, and assisted in research that led to a published academic book. She was then accepted to the University of Iowa’s English program as a Dean’s Scholar. During her graduate years, Nellene spent five years creating and teaching courses in rhetoric, composition, and literature. During one of these years, Nellene taught as an assistant professor at a liberal arts college. There, the students selected her as one of the faculty members most responsible for successful first year experiences.
She has extensive experience in college writing and in preparing students for college level academics. She also is a licensed substitute teacher in the Minneapolis Public Schools where she works with a wide variety of students, including those with developmental, behavior, and learning disabilities. This combination of experience allows her to work effectively with secondary students while retaining the perspective of a college professor.
