Rosemary Stalter, English, (Principal):  Rosemary holds a B.A. in English and a Master’s Degree in English Education from the University of Minnesota. Rosemary also holds a TEFL (Teaching English as a Second Language) certificate, IATQuO & iatefl accredited, from Paris, France. Rosemary taught literature and writing courses, grades 7 –12, including Enriched and Advanced Placement courses, for six years in the Edina Public School District. She also taught one year in Hawaii, lectured at the University of Minnesota and coordinated the Student Teaching Program for one year, and developed and taught a summer course entitled “It’s Greek To Me” (Greek Mythology, Bible History, Shakespeare).  Rosemary established The English Tutor, LLC in 2001 as a means to provide students with additional English and verbal enrichment outside of the classroom and to prepare them for their college board exams. Rosemary has over 21 years of teaching experience and over 13 years specifically as a test prep instructor with proven results. Rosemary has been recognized in the 2000, 2002, 2005, & 2006 editions of Who’s Who in American Teachers; has received the Outstanding Teacher of the Year from the University of Chicago; has been nominated for Ashland Oil Teacher of the Year, has received The Golden Apple Achiever Award, and has been recognized as one of the Best Test Prep Tutors in Minnesota by CBS-WCCO web-based news (1/11/13). Amy Smith, English: Amy holds a B.A. in English from the University of Notre Dame and an M.S. in Secondary English Education from Northwestern University. As part of her undergraduate studies, Amy spent a semester abroad at the University of Notre Dame’s London Program studying literature and the arts. She has taught American, British, and world literature; creative writing; and journalism courses for 5 years in both public and private schools, including Edina High School and Academy of Holy Angels in Richfield. At Holy Angels, Amy developed a creative writing course, created and advised the school’s literary magazine, and wrote curriculum for 9th and 11th grade literature classes. As a journalism instructor/newspaper adviser, Amy won recognition for excellence in lesson planning from the Journalism Education Association (JEA) and had a lesson plan published on their professional website. Additionally, Amy served as co-adviser for the National Honor Society while at Holy Angels. She has also successfully chartered a school-wide plagiarism policy at Holy Angels. Amy has acted as a mentor in the University of St. Thomas student teaching program and has been a member of the Board of Trustees at Holy Angels. Her experience teaching students with diverse ability levels, ranging from special education to advanced, enables her to address individual needs in a personal way. Kristin Edwards, EnglishKristin holds a B.A. in English Literature from Saint Mary’s University and a Master's in Secondary Education from Boston CollegeShe also has a certificate in Independent Educational Consultanting from the University of California, Irvine Extension Program. Kristen Meyer, English:
Kristen holds a B.A. in Biology, French, and Religion from St. Olaf College and a Master's in Journalism from the University of Wisconsin, Madison. As an undergrad, Kristen spent an interim semester of study in Angers, France. Her graduate work in journalism focused on environmental writing. Kristen and her family lived and worked in Papua New Guinea for five years giving her an intense multi-cultural experience.  While there, Kristen taught writing and reading literacy to women and homeschooled her own children.  Since returning to the United States, Kristen first volunteered, then worked in the Minneapolis Public Schools. She has spent the past 11 years as a licensed Middle School Reserve Teacher.  This experience has allowed her to teach a variety of subjects to students with a vast array of educational gifts and challenges. As a parent, Kristen has raised and launched three daughters, guiding them through their high school, college, and graduate school experiences.  Her son is currently a junior in high school, preparing for college board exams and application essays.  Kristen brings experience, versitility, and attention to detail to her tutoring. Christine Kelash, English:
Christine holds a B.A. in English and Elementary Education from the University of Minnesota, Morris, and an M.A. in Education from St. Mary's University of Minnesota.  Christine is also a trained Orton-Gillingham reading instructor. Christine brings eight years of teaching experience to The English Tutor. As a Middle School Language Arts Teacher at Annunciation School in Minneapolis, Christine developed and implemented an extensive selection of creative and formal writing, novel studies, speeches, and grammar instruction.  In 2010, Christine was invited to present a grammar lesson exemplifying Differentiated Instruction with educator and author, Diane Heacox, at the National Catholic Education Association Convention and Expo.  Christine is currently Annunciation's Middle School Coordinator, a part-time position that allows her to spend more time at home with her two young children.  In addition to teaching, Christine has experience in coaching high school Knowledge Bowl, serving as a camp program director, and editing thesis papers for Master's candidates.  Christine enjoys tutoring students from first grade through high school and has an appreciation for the unique learning needs of each student at each grade level.  (Specializes in ACT prep; Reading Instruction; Writing; English curriculum; College Essays)

Terrence Lee, Math & Science
: Terrence holds a B.S. in Chemistry and a Bachelor of Chemical Engineering from the University of Minnesota. As a gifted high school math student, Terrence participated for four years in the University of Minnesota’s Talented Youth Mathematics Program (UMTYMP), scored in the 99th percentile on both the ACT and the SAT, and was recognized as a National Merit Scholar. Terrence's instructional background started in high school where he tutored other students in Chemistry and Physics and worked as a swimming instructor. While at the U of M, Terrence tutored undergraduates for two years in Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics through the U of M's Institute of Technology (IT) tutoring program. In his field as a medical device engineer, Terrence also has served as a mentor to aspiring engineers through the IT mentoring program. Terrence relates well to and is comfortable with students of all ages as is evident in his work as a mentor for foreign exchange students and with several children's programs (Miracle Kids Triathlon, Twin Cities Marathon Family Events). Russ Durkee, Math & Science: Russ holds a B.S. both in Physics and in Astrophysics from the University of Minnesota, an M.S. in Atmospheric Science from the Universityof Illinois, and graduate training in Science Education from HamlineUniversity. For ten years Russ developed and built interactive science exhibits at the Science Museum of Minnesota. Many of his exhibits are on display in St. Paul and in museums around the country. He has also combined his work and his love for travel by joining the U.S Antarctic Program as a Meteorologist at the geographic South Pole in Antarctica.Russ has been a backyard astronomer for over 30 years, but unlike a typical stargazer, he uses his telescope to assist professional astronomers around the world to find binary asteroids. Since 2004, Russ has collaborated in the discovery of 13 binary asteroid systems and has authored or co-authored over 50 scientific papers in peer-reviewed journals on the results of his research. Throughout his career, Russ has worked with students in a wide variety of situations ranging from mentoring to summer camps to formal coursework. Russ looks forward to working one-on-one with students in Science education and in Math and Science test prep. Dana Mavros, Math & Science:
Dana holds a B.S. in BioEngineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, an M.S. in Rehabilitation Engineering from the University of Illinois at Chicago, and an M.S. in Teaching Secondary Math from the University of Illinois at Chicago.
Dana spent several years at the University of Illinois at Chicago designing and implementing devices for people with disabilities to access their classroom or workplace environment. Her earlier research and design for children’s museum exhibits and accessibility earned her accolades from UIC and helped shape her perspectives on the need for equitable design and education. Utilizing her background in both science and mathematics, Dana immersed herself in teaching Physics to freshmen at a rigorous college-prep charter high school in Chicago, IL, effecting record growth in student achievement. Moving on to teach Precalculus, AP Calculus, Finite Math, and Business Math, Dana brings great experience in creating specialized curricula & content. Her love of travel, culture, sports and music enables Dana to relate science and math to students of a variety of backgrounds and ability levels.
